GREAT Program
Local support of the public and private schools in the Stuttgart area is a critical issue. For this reason, the Stuttgart Chamber of Commerce Foundation, Inc., was organized by a group of citizens with the sponsorship of the Stuttgart Chamber of Commerce.
The Foundation began a grants-for-teachers program called GREAT in the fall of 1997. GREAT stands for "Grants for Education and Teachers". The GREAT program is an ongoing program administered by the Stuttgart Chamber Foundation, Inc.
CenturyTel has agreed to contribute $4,000 annually to the Foundation to fund the program. The money is used to fund creative teaching grants which are awarded directly to classroom teachers. These grants are restricted to academic projects which augment or enhance the existing curriculum or improve the learning environment in the classroom.
Grant applications are submitted directly to the Stuttgart Chamber Foundation by teachers from any school within the city of Stuttgart. Applications are approved on an anonymous basis by the education committee of the Foundation Board.
